Ronja Ulvfot
My name is Ronja Ulvfot, and I am a Swedish artist based in Amsterdam.
The body is at the centre of my work. Not just the external body, but the body as memory, emotion, and lived experience. I don’t have a body, ‘I am a body’. All of my experiences are stored in my body.
I work mainly in watercolour, letting the water move freely, without a plan. The figures reveal themselves organically as if they were always waiting to come out, introducing themselves to me. They shift and intertwine, carrying tenderness, grief, anger, joy, community, and resilience. I see strength in this vulnerability, another way of claiming space.
For this exhibition, Nasty Women: The Handmaid’s Tale, my work reflects on the female body, safety and embodiment. Embodiment - ‘I am a body’ - the self-awareness of the felt experience of the body. Sensory, sensational, emotional and physical experiences. Safety is a condition for embodiment to feel fully, to live fully. Yet safety for women is a privilege for only a few. This is unacceptable, and it needs to change.

Shorter Statement for socials:
I’m Ronja Ulvfot, a Swedish artist based in Amsterdam.
My work is about the body, not just as form, but as memory, emotion, and lived experience. I don’t have a body, I am a body. Every experience I’ve lived is stored there.
In watercolour, I let the figures reveal themselves, shifting and intertwining, carrying tenderness, grief, anger, joy, community, and resilience. I see strength in vulnerability, a way of claiming space.
For Nasty Women: The Handmaid’s Tale, I explore embodiment and safety. To fully inhabit our bodies, we need safety, yet it is a privilege far too few women have. This must change.
