Marcela Perrusquía

My journey as an artist began not in a studio, but in a hospital. As a medical student in

Mexico, I witnessed first-hand the power imbalances and systemic challenges women face, a struggle that eventually led me to leave the field and pursue my true passion: art. This

personal transformation became the foundation for my work, which now explores themes of women's empowerment, resilience, and mental health.

The project V.O.W: Voices of Women is a testament to this journey. Through a combination of paintings and interviews, I aim to amplify the stories of women who, despite facing oppression, violence and even femicide attempts continue to build communities of justice and resistance. It's a project rooted in sisterhood and defiance, asking a simple but powerful question: What if women were free to live, to dance, to protest?

This project resonates with the Nasty Women exhibition. Just as the exhibition stands as a direct challenge to the patriarchal systems that seek to control women, V.O.W celebrates the power of those who refuse to be silenced. It serves as a reminder that our voices, our presence, and our resistance truly matter.
