Lady Kitt
Lady Kitt is a multi-award winning Disabled sculptor based in North East England. They describe the way they work as “Mess Making as Social Glue”. Kitt’s work continues to be shaped by their semi-nomadic childhood (which included not receiving formal education until age 14). They make large scale vibrant installations or ‘folk shrines’. These are inspired by the secular & religious folk traditions they experienced as a child, in Portugal.
Kitt’s work has been shown at Saatchi Gallery (UK), National Centre on Restorative Justice (USA) and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art (UK). Recently they have been commissioned by the Estate of Gordon Matta-Clark, USA (“Feral Alchemies”, 2025) and QUEERCIRCLE, London ("Critical Crafts" 2024). Kitt is co-founder of the North East hub of ‘Nasty Women’.
Kitt’s touring installation ‘sustain’ invites visitors to contemplate the creative actions which sustain them as individuals & communities. The work provides resources for acts of creative resistance and connection, which the artist believes are vital in dismantling the unjust and dangerous systems of heteropatriarchy.
“Compelling, generous and necessary world-building: ‘sustain’ invites people to step into an alternate realm, one where we can share energy and build community across time and space. A beautiful place of radical acceptance which people can engage with on their own terms.” - Lady Kitt
